Andraš Šoljom
Diacon

Deacon Andraš Šoljom was born in 1972 in Budapest, Hungary. He is a mechanical engineer by education: he completed his undergraduate studies at the Technical Faculty in Dunaújváros and his postgraduate studies at the Technical University of Eindhoven (Netherlands). After working in his profession for several years, he dedicated his life to serving the Church.

He became acquainted with the Serbian language and culture in Tököl, with the help of teacher Zorka Pejović and the late Abbot Andrej Pandurović. Although not of Serbian origin, he feels a deep connection to Serbian spirituality and tradition. He embraced Orthodox Christianity in 2006 at the church on Petőfi Square in Budapest, and the following year he visited the Serbian Kovin Monastery for the first time — a place to which he has remained closely connected ever since.

He was ordained a deacon on August 4, 2012, at the Church of St. George in Budapest. Since 2020, he has been a permanent member of the brotherhood of the Serbian Kovin Monastery, serving alongside Archimandrite Methodije Marković. In addition to his liturgical duties, he actively contributes to monastery life through the care of the grounds, administrative tasks, translation work, and welcoming pilgrims.

He is married and the father of three children. The family’s patron saint is Saint Moses the Hungarian (Ugrin), a feast that uniquely connects his Hungarian heritage with the Orthodox faith. Through his life and ministry, Deacon Andraš Šoljom bears witness to the importance of love, transformation, and liturgical fellowship. As a man from the multicultural Carpathian Basin, he especially emphasizes the value of preserving the Orthodox faith in diverse social circumstances.
